Mrs. Kathy and Judge Paul Donaldson:
As our year comes to an end, I would like you to know how our Adult English classes did this year at Arrowhead Elementary.
This year in the beginning English level class, I worked on the following goals:
- Introduce students to new everyday vocabulary and basic grammar skills.
- Assist students to pronounce and practice new acquire vocabulary using their oral skills.
- Encourage students to use their English outside the classroom and share their stories with the class.
- Develop simple writing skills using their previously learn vocabulary and grammar skills.
- Assist and encourage students to carry out everyday interaction using their English skills.
Even thought I had 23 students enrolled in the class, I have about 15 of them who were committed to attending the classes twice a week. I was very pleased to see my students applied their English skills in their everyday situations. One of my students, Jose, participated in classes after school for his preschool son, Gabriel. I observed him holding a conversation with the teacher! Before Leticia did not feel confident enough to ask simple everyday questions, but now she tells me that she can take her daughter to the doctor by herself and order a refill at the pharmacy!
The English classes are not only helping the parents at our school, but they are also helping our community in general. Many of these parents are becoming active advocates in their children’s education by signing up to join our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and participating in other activities/organizations at our school.
Thank you so much for all you do for the Arrowhead community!!
Sincerely,
RosaMaria Cordova, M. Ed.
